oh goodness, i read this book and its soo good!! i havent even heard about the movie yet now im excited :) thanks for saying helloo and for your sweet comment! xx
It was an Oprah pick, a long time ago, and I remember distinctly a coworker, one with one of those loud, piercing voices, commenting to me over and over that she tried to read that book, but couldn't because it was "just so SAD!" I didn't reply, and she just kept saying it.
I wanted to tell her, that's the point-something sad happens, and then you have to cope with the sadness. You don't read sad books because you like to be sad. You read sad books because they remind you that you're not the only person in the world who is sad.
My coworker (and, more than 5 years on, I can still hear her voice) just couldn't concieve of a world where something terrible would happen, so she shut the book out. Her loss.
It is a hard read, though, Spanky-not hard as in complicated, hard as in draining.
I read the book and sorta hated it ...it was so slow and nothing really happened and it wasn't even that sentimental, it just tried too hard! BUT the film look AMAZING!

ReplyDeleteI walk around with this book in hand, shoving it in peoples' faces and demand they read it. It really is one of the best books I've ever read.
