Of course, you could always be lame...

    Iced *Tea* Cocktail
    paraphernalia:
    • 1 to 2 parts Earl Grey-infused vodka (see below)
    • 2 parts lemon soda (E.g., Limonata, Squirt, Fresca, 7-UP)
    • a sprig of mint (optional)
    • a thinly sliced lemon (optional)
    • a splash of simple syrup (optional)
To make Earl Grey-infused vodka: For a 750 ml bottle, steep 4 tea bags for four to five hours (or until it's brewed-tea color; don't let it sit too long, or it will get bitter and tannic).

Simple syrup is equal parts by measure of sugar and water, heated to dissolve the sugar, and cooled.

      To construct cocktail:
Fill a tall glass with ice. Pour one to two parts vodka (depending on how strong you like it over ice. Add two parts lemon soda as a mixer. Add lemon, mint, and/or simple syrup if desired.

      Wordy Wednesday: Lewis Carroll

He may have been positively Mad, but there's absolutely no way that ANYONE could say he wasn't a genius of words.
to celebrate Alice in Wonderland week, i'm bringing back Wordy Wednesdays, and naturally, today i'm posting about:

      Lewis Carroll
author of Alice in Wonderland & Through the Looking Glass
He often gives us "very good advice", even if we "very seldom follow it":

"Always speak the truth, think before you speak, and write it down afterwards."
"Begin at the beginning and go on till you come to the end; then stop."
"Everything's got a moral, if only you can find it."
"I can't go back to yesterday - because I was a different person then."
"If you don't know where you're going, any road will get you there."

      made us believe in imagination:

"Sometimes I've believed as many as six impossible things before breakfast."
"If I had a world of my own, everything would be nonsense. Nothing would be what it is, because everything would be what it isn't. And contrary wise, what is, it wouldn't be. And what it wouldn't be, it would. You see?"
"In a Wonderland they lie, Dreaming as the days go by, Dreaming as the summers die:
Ever drifting down the stream- Lingering in the golden gleam- Life, what is it but a dream?"
"One of the deep secrets of life is that all that is really worth the doing is what we do for others"

& wrote some of the best poems in literary history, which i have posted on The Q:

      All in the Golden Afternoon

      Jabberwocky

      You Are Old, Father William
& my favourite poem of all time...
      The Walrus & The Carpenter

So Lewis, we celebrate you today, & this entire week. Your words of wisdom over power any sort of creepy undertone, in my eyes.
[the real Alice, Alice Liddell. Photographed by Lewis Carroll]
& with that curiouser & curiouser notion, i thank you for leading me down the Rabbit Hole & into Wonderland over & over again.

      too hot tuesday: Johnny Depp*

Gee... who could POSSIBLY be the Too Hot Tuesday yum-duck on Alice in Wonderland week...

      ok, duh.
i don't have to tell any of... anyone... that one of THE SEXIEST men on the f'n planet is, absolutely:
      Johnny Depp
helloooo. He made us tear up in Cry-Baby, taught us not to judge too quickly in Edward Scissorhands, entertained us with dancing buns in Benny & Joon, kiiiinda made us wanna vom in Fear & Loathing in Las Vegas... but it was ok, because he made it up to us by enchanted us as a hot irish "river rat" gypsy in Chocolat.
He's whisked us off to the Caribbean, invited us into a Chocolate Factory, took us back to Fleet Street & taught us to fly to Neverland... now, on Alice week, he's taking us on an adventure in Wonderland.
[ya... i'd basically follow him anywhere...]
In his 7th collaboration with one of my visionary genius idols, Tim Burton, Johnny Depp will be playing a seriously fantastic role, The Mad Hatter.
[ok, maybe he's not "hot", per-se, in Alice...
but it's it kinda even hotter than he can
be so weirdly magnetic in a
      seriously orange wig?
      maaaaybe it's just me...]

That's not all, homeboy has two films in post production, one filming, two in pre-production & a whopping 14 FILMS in development!
[one of which is, obvi, with Burton again -
      Dark Shadows potentially in 2011]
      YoWzA!

my luvs, i ask you, who else is as freak'n kool as Johnny Depp?

he's so balla, he turned an unfortunate tat into one of the slickest cover ups ever, with a quick ink fix, he makes being a
      "Wino Forever"
      soooo fuck'n hotttttt!

personally, i can't freak'n wait to see what this scorching hot Duck of a Million Masks does next!
      what's YOUR favourite Johnny Depp
      movie, moment, character... anything?!

if you have any suuuuper scrumptious photos of this weeks THT, please feel free to either upload them on the Spanky luvs it* facebook fan page, or e-mail them to Spankyluvsit@gmail.com
& always, if you wanna nominate a drool worthy celebu-duck for a Too Hot Tuesday, shoot me a message via e-mail with a few photos, and a short nomination paragraph!

      {2 days, 1 hour & 17 mins until
      i fall down the rabbit hole!}

      ur wish: Angel*

"It took me a long time to come up with a wish, at first I thought of material things, there are so many things I long or, I lust for, but thank God, I do not need, it seemed useless to waste a wish on something un-useful, so here it goes.
My wish is the ability to lose the fear that drives my life.
      In simpler words.
I wish to live life fearlessly."

      Manic Monday: Alice in Wonderland

      it's Alice in Wonderland Week!!!!

it's no shock that i'm obsessed with Alice in Wonderland.
you've all seen it here before, it's a pretty obvious obsession
      [for me & many others]
but, since the new *Tim Burton* version is coming out shortly, everyone seems to be even MORE manic about the tripped out story of a little girl lost.
so, i'm bringing back Manic Mondays to celebrate:
      Alice in Wonderland
As a child of the Disney generation (if that's even accurate), my initial thought of Alice in Wonderland is the, semi-terrifying, 80 min long, animated version from 1951.
i've always luvd the story of the girl named Alice, even if it is a liiiiittle weird...

i luv the imagination, the implied horror & excitement in a topsy turvy world, & the gratitude we can have when we finally get home again.

Of course, i'm not the only one who's found inspiration pouring from the seams of Wonderland.
the Lewis Carroll original is, arguably, one of the most provoking stories in literature, inspiring everything from:

      Music

      Jefferson Airplane's White Rabbit
[one of my personal fav songs ever.]

      Aerosmith's "Sunshine"

      GWAR's "Phallus in Wonderland"
      Art

Salvador Dali's "A Mad Tea Party"
[collection of Alice in Wonderland inspired images part 1 & 2]

      Jewelry, Fashion & Photography

Annie Lebovitz Alice in Wonderland Photos for Dec 2003 Vogue
      [more here!]

watch the impromptu Mad Tea Party where Disney released a preview of
      Alice is the New Black
      line.
view other pieces by Tom Binns's Alice in Wonderland line for Disney Couture at Creative Contrast and Boutique for you, & see some of Tom Binn's work as well as more Swarovski pieces at the Disney Store!
[Also, follow @TomBinnsDesigns on twitter for updates on new gorg pieces.]

      Science

there is a medical term called "Alice in Wonderland Syndrome" a "disorienting neurological condition" which has symptoms of seeing things in disproportion.
personally, i think i have "White Rabbit Syndrome", since i'm perpetually late!

there are a million other ways that Alice in Wonderland has applied, inspired, enlightened culture, but there's no need to overwhelm!
i imagine whatever is next is going to be amazing...
i can only hope that it's a Cirque du Soleil!

Do you know of any others, that i didn't mention?
Do you have any fabulous photos, news or links to share?
      e-mail them to Spankyluvsit@gmail.com!

Continue with me through Alice in Wonderland week & look forward to reading about my trip down the Rabbit Hole to be posted this weekend
[i'm seeing the movie Thursday at midnight!]

      liminality: Alive in Wonderland

i don't know if any of you saw, but i had the chance to write a guest post on Diamond in the Rough. The Assignment was to write about Liminality, & [after looking up the definition], i was happy to oblige, and excited to get started. There's also a "Gather Round & Meet..." about me & the bliggity.
[please make sure to check out Diamond in the Rough!]

      Liminality: Alive in Wonderland

I’m a space cadet that over thinks everything. I’m a completely over-analytical flake, a slob with OCD, a fantasy obsessed realist. My brain is constructed with Organized Chaos.
I have a pretty broad vocabulary, but I hadn’t heard the word liminality until now.
I’m reminded of a the movie “Phoebe in Wonderland”, about a young girl (Elle Fanning) who lives between two worlds. Similar to Alice in Wonderland, but instead of falling down a Rabbit Hole and having a whirlwind adventure, only to visit again through a Looking Glass, Phoebe continuously lives in the “in-between”.
I often feel that this is how I live my life. This may be the reason I insist on making lists, charts, calendars, organized piles with distinction, reminders telling me not to forget to do something important, with another reminder telling me not to dismiss the previous, until it’s complete.
How many moments, adding up to hours, days, do I spend trying to find the answer?
There is no up, no down, only in between. I work to get the first thing done, but before I can even get the materials out to do so, my mind has wandered, hop, skip & jump, three things past & I must sit & scramble to put the pieces together to find where I’m at.
It makes it very difficult to get much done.
Structure, purpose, goals, ideals, deadlines, assignments, distractions, imagination, self destruction, excuses, shame, exhaustion…

Your browser may not support display of this image.
Like Alice, I beg for a world that isn’t the way this one is. I would love to live among Flowers that sang to me, bread & butterflies, tea parties with no reason, but plenty of rhymes, but again, I know, much like she eventually did, I’d beg for normalcy, structure and sense.
Beg for my feet to land, lightly on the ground, right side up at the bottom of the Rabbit hole, with a way to reach the top again, or the sense to look up, toward the light of reality.

“Alice, wake up! Please wake up Alice!”

Liminality, to me, shows that great space between; the cognitive limbo, my impervious purgatory, the incredible heaven/ hell concubinage, resistance to reality, acceptance of fantasy, allowance of uncertainty.

“If I had a world of my own, everything would be nonsense. Nothing would be what it is, because everything would be what it isn’t. And contrary wise, what is, it wouldn’t be. And what it wouldn’t be, it would. You see?”
        i hope you all enjoyed!
