the "plastic bag" feeling.

sometimes i feel like a broken soul...
like, my heart has holes in it, & with a passing movement of something beautiful, the hole is filled, just for a fleeting second, & when that happens, the blood in my veins is velvet.
its an instant. i'm in over my head before i have a chance to stop myself. i'll quake, i'll sob, goose-bumps, tears.
I can't explain it. it could be anything. Its happened all my life. Its happened at museums, during movies, sometimes i'm lucky enough to be alone, sometimes i'm surrounded by people.

i can't always pin point its meaning until it's over, & sometimes not even then.

was it sorrow? love? pain? utter joy?

it just happened to me. I was just sitting, alone in my room, eating guacamole & watching that new ABC Family show, HUGE. [the show is about a Fat camp, starring Nikki Blonsky from Hairspray & David Hasslehoff's daughter, Hayley]
The premise of the episode was Talent Night at the camp. Ian, friend to tough chick Will(imina), played by Blonsky, had found her journal, not knowing it was hers & was extremely inspired by a poem he read inside. He wrote this song, using bits of the poem.

this might sound silly, but it was so beautiful, i kinda lost my shit. All of a sudden, i'm sitting here, guac tortilla in hand, ear budz in my ears, tears streaming down my face.

the lyrics are:

"Why does time move forward and never end? Why cant I somehow become a child again? I'd it right this time, I'd it right this time, I'd it right, this time. Ooh,. Ooh Snow would fall upwards dead leaves would turn green, I'd be a version of myself i've never seen. I'd it right this time, I'd it right this time, I'd it right this time. Ooh, Ooh The snow falls down and dead leaves break apart. Yeah, things fall down and people break your heart, And people break your heart. Time moves forward so does this song, Which i can barely write. So I'll write it wrong,. I'll write it wrong this time, Cause wrong is right this time. Lets do it right this time"

when this rush of my soul feeling full & tickled by the beauty or sadness or spiritual awakening, what-have-you, when this happens, i can't help but think of the plastic bag in American Beauty

"sometimes there's so much beauty, in the world, i feel like i can't take it. my heart, is just going to, cave in."

i feel exposed.

i just thought i'd share that moment with you all.

Manic Monday: Alice in Wonderland

it's Alice in Wonderland Week!!!!

it's no shock that i'm obsessed with Alice in Wonderland.
you've all seen it here before, it's a pretty obvious obsession
[for me & many others]
but, since the new *Tim Burton* version is coming out shortly, everyone seems to be even MORE manic about the tripped out story of a little girl lost.
so, i'm bringing back Manic Mondays to celebrate:
Alice in Wonderland
As a child of the Disney generation (if that's even accurate), my initial thought of Alice in Wonderland is the, semi-terrifying, 80 min long, animated version from 1951.
i've always luvd the story of the girl named Alice, even if it is a liiiiittle weird...

i luv the imagination, the implied horror & excitement in a topsy turvy world, & the gratitude we can have when we finally get home again.

Of course, i'm not the only one who's found inspiration pouring from the seams of Wonderland.
the Lewis Carroll original is, arguably, one of the most provoking stories in literature, inspiring everything from:

Music

Jefferson Airplane's White Rabbit
[one of my personal fav songs ever.]

Aerosmith's "Sunshine"

GWAR's "Phallus in Wonderland"
Art

Salvador Dali's "A Mad Tea Party"
[collection of Alice in Wonderland inspired images part 1 & 2]

Jewelry, Fashion & Photography

Annie Lebovitz Alice in Wonderland Photos for Dec 2003 Vogue
[more here!]

watch the impromptu Mad Tea Party where Disney released a preview of
Alice is the New Black
line.
view other pieces by Tom Binns's Alice in Wonderland line for Disney Couture at Creative Contrast and Boutique for you, & see some of Tom Binn's work as well as more Swarovski pieces at the Disney Store!
[Also, follow @TomBinnsDesigns on twitter for updates on new gorg pieces.]

Science

there is a medical term called "Alice in Wonderland Syndrome" a "disorienting neurological condition" which has symptoms of seeing things in disproportion.
personally, i think i have "White Rabbit Syndrome", since i'm perpetually late!

there are a million other ways that Alice in Wonderland has applied, inspired, enlightened culture, but there's no need to overwhelm!
i imagine whatever is next is going to be amazing...
i can only hope that it's a Cirque du Soleil!

Do you know of any others, that i didn't mention?
Do you have any fabulous photos, news or links to share?
e-mail them to Spankyluvsit@gmail.com!

Continue with me through Alice in Wonderland week & look forward to reading about my trip down the Rabbit Hole to be posted this weekend
[i'm seeing the movie Thursday at midnight!]

troubled no more.

no, i don't watch "the idol" or whatever the real fans call it. I haven't watched it since season 2, which i only watched a few episodes of, but i've seen some of the more news worthy clips here & there.
-My boss, Mike, mentioned this following guy to me. Knowing i am a big Ray Lamontagne fan, he thought i'd appreciate it.
[i do!]

after watching, i told my boss to "keep me posted"...
i'll google any future awesome tunes, but, no matter how good this guy (Matthew Lawrence, no not the one from Boy Meets World) might be, i'm still not watching that dumb reality show!!!
[thanks Bossman!]

gripes make only bitter wine...

for 2010, i'm going to let something go.

i lost a "friend" this year, & it sucked, but for this year, i'm letting it go. i'm over it.

to get it out of my system, i'm making two dedications.

especially these lines:
 You wanna make me sick;
You wanna lick my wounds,
Don't you, baby?
You want the badge of honour when you save my hide
But you're the one in the way
Of the day of doom, baby
If you need my shame to reclaim your pride

especially these lines:
I tried so hard
In spite of the way you were mocking me
Acting like I was part of your property
Remembering all the times you fought with me
I'm surprised

It got so far
Things aren't the way they were before
You wouldn't even recognize me anymore
Not that you knew me back then
But it all comes back to me in the end
...
I've put my trust in you
Pushed as far as I can go
And for all this
There's only one thing you should know

I tried so hard and got so far
But in the end it doesn't even matter
I had to fall to lose it all
But in the end it doesn't even matter

& with that... i'm done. it may be hard to do, but as far as i'm concerned, this "friend" is gone, i'm over it & i will try my damnedest never to mention it again.

i feel refreshed...

Let's Duet!

it takes the all night Flu to get me some time to be able to blog. (yack).

This is a post that i'd been wanting to write for a while. I'm stoked to share with you my thoughts on the subject, but i'm really excited to hear YOUR thoughts!

The subject is music. more specifically...
Duets!

it takes one amazing voice to make a great song, but TWO amazing voices sometimes make a PB & J sandwich of musical luv. Here are a few of my favourite Duets... (in no particular order)

  • Let's Duet - Dewey Cox (John C. Riley) & Darlene Madison (Jenna Fischer)

  • Two Wrongs - Claudette & Wycleff

  • Lucky - Jason Mraz & Colbie Caillat

  • I'm Real - J.Lo & Ja Rule

  • Photograph - Kid Rock & Sheryl Crow

  • My Boo - Usher & Alicia Keys

  • '03 Bonnie & Clyde - Jay Z & Beyonce

  • I Got Your Babe - Sonny & Cher

  • Summer Loving - Danny (John Travolta) & Sandy (Olivia Newton-John)

I would put Chris Brown & Rhianna, bc up until recent actions, that was a def winner, but i can't under principle, post that song.

What's number 10? I can't think of one. I'll tell you what would be hilarious, if AmeCakes was right & soon we'll be hearing a Kanye West & Taylor Swift duet. HA!

There. At least i got something out there for you to all enjoy for a bit, but now my head is spinning a little bit & i think i have to go take a nap. I might write more later about my newest obsession. We'll see how i feel. Jam on to these great songs & if you can think of a number 10, PUH-LEASE let me know!

it's me. in the thing.

obsessed. i listen to this song (this version of this song) literally at LEAST once a day, usually more.

"Being for the Benefit of Mr. Kite"
-by The Beatles, performed by Eddie Izzard in Across the Universe.

There is just something so perfect about Eddie Izzard as Mr. Kite.
